About the PDF Multiple Pages Per Sheet converter
Printing a long document one page to a sheet wastes paper when all you need is something readable to mark up or hand round.
This fits several pages onto each sheet, in reading order, scaled to fit — the same thing a print dialogue calls "pages per sheet", but as a file you can keep and send on.
Reading order, not booklet order
Nothing is reordered here. Pages 1 and 2 sit side by side on the first sheet, 3 and 4 on the next. That is what you want for a handout, and exactly what you do not want for something you intend to fold.
If you are going to fold and staple it, use the booklet maker instead — folding a document imposed this way puts the pages in the wrong order entirely.
Why do it here rather than in the print dialogue
Your printer driver can usually do this, but the result exists only for that one print job. Producing a file means you can check it before wasting paper, email it, or hand it to someone whose printer software works differently.
It also survives being uploaded to a print shop, which is the case the driver setting cannot help with at all.
Frequently asked questions
Will the text still be readable?
Two to a sheet is comfortable for anything. Four is fine for slides and larger type. Nine and sixteen are really for thumbnails — useful for checking a layout, not for reading.
Can I add a gap between the pages?
Yes. A few millimetres of gutter makes a handout easier to read and gives you somewhere to cut if you intend to separate them.
Is my document uploaded?
No. The pages are rearranged in your browser, which matters for anything you would not email to a stranger — a manuscript, a contract, an order of service.
